What is Greenscapes Massachusetts

 Greenscapes are beautiful landscapes that protect our water.

The Greenscapes Massachusetts program is a collaborative education and outreach effort sponsored by the Greenscapes Massachusetts Coalition and many Community Partners, Grantors, Underwriters, Advisors, Allies, and Supporters.

The Greenscapes Massachusetts program seeks to:
  • educate citizens and professionals about landscaping practices (particularly irrigation and chemical use) to have less impact on the environment;
  • create an informed and proactive citizenry that acts as environmental stewards in their own backyards; and
  • generate broad support for the responsible public management of water resources (quality and quantity).

The Greenscapes Massachusetts image and message has been carefully designed to appeal to a broad audience  so that it might be adopted by a diverse group of citizens.  We strive for a positive, reasonable, non-commercial tone in all representations of the Greenscapes brand and information. Content is based on widely accepted science and has been extensively peer-reviewed.

Today’s Greenscapes Massachusetts is based on the successful program originally developed on the South Shore of Massachusetts in 2002 by the North and South Rivers Watershed Association and the Massachusetts Bays National Estuary Program. The Greenscapes Massachusetts Coalition very much appreciates the generosity of these organizations who willingly share their materials and expertise with Greenscapes Massachusetts partners, both current and future.

Several organizational members of the Greenscapes Massachusetts Coalition are "allies" of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's GreenScapes Program. Please note that while our programs share similar names and goals, the programs are not one and the same.
