IRWA's Riverbend

Riverbend (143 County Road, Ipswich) is not only home to the Ipswich River Watershed Association, but also to several examples of cutting edge low-impact-development technologies, such as a green roof, native plant rain garden, rainwater harvesting system and a parking lot constructed out of permeable paving stones.

Riverbend is also a Greenscapes demonstration site for river-friendly landscaping. Our newest addition is the beautiful bird and butterfly garden with Bearberry, Summersweet, Inkberry, Miss Manners Obedient Plant and other species that were generously donated by the American Beauties native plant collection, the native plant resource for the 2009 Greenscapes Massachusetts program. The garden demonstrates how to help wildlife and save time, money and water. In addition to the American Beauties, we want to give a big thanks to the wet, but spirited volunteers who helped us plant, and to Denise King for the garden design.

Come see our new garden and take the guesswork out of creating a similar garden yourself. While here you can also check out our green roof, rain garden, rainbarrels and permeable parking. For more information about the Riverbend Greenscapes Garden or the Greenscapes North Shore Program, please contact the Ipswich River Watershed Association at info@ipswichriver.org or 978-412-8200.
